It is with profound sorrow that the Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Praktani (NRVP) has learned of the tragic and untimely passing of Diptangshu Mahata, a Class XII student of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur.
The loss of a young life is a tragedy beyond words. On behalf of the alumni association, I extend our deepest condolences to Diptangshu’s family, his friends, his teachers and his fellow students. We pray that his soul rests in eternal peace and that his family finds the strength to bear this immeasurable loss.
We also wish to address the students and their guardians directly. We know that this tragedy has caused immense grief, pain and anguish. We recognise the anxiety and uncertainty many of you are expressing regarding the health, safety and well-being of our students. Your concerns are entirely understandable, and we want to assure you that they are being heard with the seriousness they deserve. Please know that the alumni community stands in unwavering solidarity with you during this difficult time.
As we mourn this devastating loss, NRVP remains committed to extending every possible support within its capacity to ensure that the truth is established, accountability is upheld, and meaningful remedial measures are taken so that no student or family has to endure such a tragedy again.
At the same time, we do not support a trial by media or the premature attribution of responsibility. In moments of profound grief, it is all the more important that facts prevail over speculation and that due process is allowed to take its course.
NRVP therefore calls for a thorough, impartial and time-bound investigation into the circumstances surrounding Diptangshu’s death. If any individual or institution is found to have been responsible, whether through negligence or any act or omission, they must be held accountable in accordance with the law.
With deepest sympathy,
Shivaji Basu Ray
Secretary
NRVP
